PhonePe, owned by Walmart Inc, has filed a lawsuit against competitor BharatPe for its “Buy Now, Pay Later” “PostPe” app for trademark infringement for using the “Pe” suffix in its name.
The company withdraws an earlier plea filed in the Bombay High Court case. She has applied to the Bombay High Court for an injunction to prevent Resilient Innovations, which operates BharatPe, from abusing PhonePe trademarks, Flipkart Group said in a statement on Friday.

During the hearing, the Court observed that the PostPe brand adopted by Resilient Innovations is so phonetically, structurally and visually similar to the PhonePe brand that it also believed that PostPe / postPe is a natural evolution of the word PhonePe and emanates from from PhonePe, the company said on its statement at the Oct. 22 hearing on the matter.
“However, in response to some comments made by the court in the pleadings filed by PhonePe, the lawsuit was withdrawn with the freedom to file a new lawsuit challenging the adoption of the PostPe / postPe trademark by Resilient Innovations,” a added PhonePe.
He added that the court granted PhonePe the freedom to bring a new action by allowing the withdrawal of the previous action and keeping the rights and claims of the party open.
In a statement to the PTI news agency, a spokesperson for BharatPe said: “In order to maintain the dignity of the judicial process, we would await the receipt of the order issued yesterday by the Bombay High Court …”, declared the spokesperson.
